Bad bad kitty

Waffle has had a hard time adjusting to no longer being the baby of the house. For 12 years, he was talked to like a baby sang to like he was a baby, and spoiled like a baby. When we found out we were pregnant, I thought it was time to cut back on babying the cat so I could baby the baby. Waffle didn't take this idea too well. He got locked out of his favorite room. He got nervous with all the furniture changes. He wasn't getting sang to anymore, I was singing to my belly and not him. He got jealous and he got grumpy.
One day, Waffle decided that he would show how upset he was with me by pooping in the middle of the living room. I grabbed him by the scruff and he turned around and bit my hand. It was a deep puncture wound but I didn't even notice until I saw the blood pour out. Chris helped me clean it out and took me to urgent care. We thought it was a good idea since I am pregnant but wouldn't have thought of it otherwise. The doctor said it looked icky but not horrible and put it in a brace after they cleaned it. She even told Chris what a good job he did cleaning my hand.

The next day my hand felt more painful and swollen so after debating for a little while, I decided to get it checked out. I thought it was better to be paranoid since I am pregnant. The same doctor saw me but when she saw my hand, she decided to call a hand surgeon who told her to get me to the hospital immediately for emergency surgery to remove the infection.
Chris took me to Porter hospital, do not pass go, do not collect $200. The hand surgeon decided not to admit me to the hospital and do the surgery in the ER to try to protect me from nasty hospital germs. He was great at showing me what he was doing and explaining everything. Chris and I were fascinated by the whole process. The nurse assistant fainted in the middle of the surgery. The hand surgeon looked at me and asked if he could check her out. "Definitely!" So he helped her out and elevated her feet. I like to think she couldn't handle the guts but Chris and I were so tough we took it no problem! The surgeon told me if I hadn't gone to the doctor when I did I could have lost my hand and I wouldn't have gone to the doctor if I wasn't pregnant so our baby girl saved me hand!

He casted me after the surgery and told me not to move it so it could heal. I couldn't write. I couldnt drive. I couldn't even get dressed without help. Chris and Chase were amazing driving me around, opening doors and jars for me, helping me shower, taking me to doctors appointments. I couldn't do anything without them!
After a few days I started wound care and got the dressing changed every other day and started moving. After a few days, my hand couldn't move more than a few degrees.
After a week and a half, the hand therapist graduated me and told me I don't have to come back ever! I healed up amazingly well and all I need to do is see the surgeon Monday to get official clearance. Yay!!
Waffle will have to find a new home either with an amazing person who is willing to have an orange grumpy fur ball or in kitty heaven.
I'm just glad things turned out as well as they did and my hand is doing great. It's definitely a good story for the baby book!

Ultrasound Images 3.30.11

All in all, the 20 week appointment at the OB/GYN went very well. We found out that we are having a baby girl, which I am extremely excited about (probably a little more than Rachel, who thought it was going to be a boy). She was measured and ultrasonically poked and prodded and we got to spend about an hour watching her roll around and react to all the excitement. Luckily, I ignored the technician's order to not record everything on video and recorded everything without her knowledge anyway. That's especially good because the technician gave me maybe 4 minutes at the end to record our little lady laying static on the screen. Definitely not good enough! ;) Once I am done editing that video down a little (or at least splitting it into 15 minute bits for YouTube), I will post most, if not all, of it. It's pretty amazing to watch. Luckily the camera picked up most of the audio, so you can hear the technician explain everything to us.

We had a great doctor come in to explain the results of the ultrasound afterward. He was very nice and quite funny. According to his explanations, our girl's progress is right on track. All her measurements are normal and Rachel's birth-giving apparatus appears to be all in order, in excellent condition, and within the perfect range. The only abnormal thing is that everyone was a little surprised about all of our little one's movement. It's nothing to worry about, just definitely a ninja baby!

Below are some pictures our technician took for us while she was doing measurements...
